Willow Jarosh

Willow 2012Hey there! I’m Willow and I truly adore food. I love learning about how it’s grown. I love eating it. I love having people I love cook for me. I love having chefs I don’t know cook for me. I love cooking with and for other people. I love just sitting around talking about food and cooking methods and pickling methods and fermentation and all other food-related topics. You get the picture. For me, time in the kitchen is relaxing and creative and full of possibilities. And food connects me to the people I care about, whether that is friends, family, or clients. Because of what I do, I can also help family, friends, and clients learn to use food to feel better, have more fun, and stick around this earth a little longer.

I grew up in rural New Mexico, putting green chile on everything and spending most of my free time outside. I remember my mom letting me concoct my own recipes in the kitchen, standing on a step stool next to her while she cooked so I could reach the counter. I’d combine different herbs in the mortar and pestle and mix them with still-frozen peas and whatever else I could get my hands on. For you parents reading this, let your kids mess around in the kitchen. They don’t have to make anything in particular (or recognizable), but it’s such a great way to encourage feeling comfortable in the kitchen. I still love being in the kitchen with my mom and find a lot of inspiration by watching her make homemade tempeh (SO good!), the best kimchi I’ve ever tasted, and  all the other really cool foods she creates.

As I got older I continued to play sports, hike, camp, and spend time outdoors and I started to more strongly feel the connection between what I ate and how I felt and performed. Pursuing a degree in nutrition at the University of New Mexico, and later a Masters Degree in Nutrition Communications from Tufts University, was a great way to combine my interest in kitchen experimentation with a love of chemistry and biology and a determination to share the health- and food-inspired love. Steph and I started C&J Nutrition as a way to get the word out about the power of food, while also making healthy eating more approachable and realistic. Our recipes and messages now reach people via magazines, TV, YouTube, workplace wellness programming, social media, our private practice, and my incessant talking. 😉

My favorite part of what I do is helping people discover the power they already have inside to feel their best. Food unlocks that power and seeing someone discover that they not only deserve to feel awesome, but have the ability to feel energized and healthy via their food choices, is a really incredible process to get to be a part of. It’s really great to work with clients, both one-on-one and via media work, to help increase positivity and joy around food, eating, and taking care of yourself.
